Junior Scientists Golds @ Homi Bhabha

With the constant support and blessings if our well-wishers, teachers and parents, our students have been making their mark in various fields.

Two of our students Mast. Yash Sandeep Sawant- Std.IX/A (English Medium)and Swarangi Santosh Saraf - Std.IX/A (Marathi Medium) won Gold Medals in Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition.

The project of Mast.Yash Sawant titled "Think Globally, Act Locally" on the topic "Reducing Carbon Footprint" involved

1) Reducing Electricity, Consumption by
a) Getting sunlight in house during daytime by a "Solar Tracking Reflector" developed using a Pedestal Fan
b) Using LED Lamps for Lighting.
c) Optimizing refrigerator Thermostat setting as per food and Drugs Administrator recommendations.
d) Using Tablet computers instead of Desktop computers.

2) Reducing cars fuel consumption by using the wasted heat in exhaust gases for running car air conditioner.

The project of Ms.Swarangee Saraf titled Reduction in Carbon footprint by Air conditioning without electricity

Swarangee found a way to reduce carbon footprints by her way. She has done it by avoiding the usage of electricity completely while enjoying air conditioning in a household or at the office or at any workplace.

This miracle of ‘No Electricity Air Conditioning’ is made possible by a simple principle of convection of air. The working model of it shows that cooling of closed room is very much possible by using sunlight heat and is directly proportional to the intensity of heat of the sun. This phenomenon is very useful especially in a hot weathered country like India.

Being a developing nation, India is going through a phase that demands great amount of energy and at the same time there is a powerful pressure on us not to increase our carbon emission beyond limit. While at it, ‘cutback’ policy cannot share the adequate measure for the purpose. In such the situation, Swarangee feels that finding out such the ‘Out Of Box’ ideas will really work out to be effective way to keep the nation ahead in the race of energy.

Hearty congratulations to Yash, Swarangee and their parents alongwith our science teachers, Ms. Nilima Khadatkar, Ms. Reshma Shinde and Ms. Pallavi Patil. You have made your school proud.

Balodyan Cultural camp, Sr. KG 2014-2015

- (H.M., Balodyan, Reports)
The kindergarten years are formative years for children, which help shape their little minds. It is our constant endeavour at Balodyan to mould the little minds into creative ones. We arrange various activities to make our children more active, creative and confident. With similar goals in mind we had initiated "One day Cultural Camp" 8 yrs ago. This year on Sunday 22nd Feb2015, it was successfully organized with zestful participation of parents, students and teachers. The camp was held between 10.00 am to 5.00 pm in our school hall.

To exhibit our student’s  skills we had showcased their drawings, picture colouring, clay works and articles made from waste material. Children and parents had gathered in the school hall. Mr. Vasuki. P. Harnahalli, who is the Secretary of the Governing Council of our school, was the Chief Guest.  The program was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by our Chief Guest, Mr. Harnahalli,
Chairperson, School Committee, Dr .Mrs. Vasundhara Natekar, Mrs. Priya Nikam, member of the school committee; Mrs. Nandita Churi, A. H .M., Primary section; and Mrs. Sushma Pradhan H. M. of Balodyan section. Mr. Prabhakar Thakur, founder member of VPM and Dr. Mr. Makarand Natekar also graced the occasion.
Cultural programmes like prayers, shloka recitation, and songs created a mystical environment. Everyone seemed to be engrossed in it.

Children learn well when the topic is embodied in practical activities.

To make our children aware of the different community helpers and their contributions to society a parent-child act was designed during the camp.
The parent and child were asked to dress as various community helpers and to speak few sentences in their roles. At the same time a short piece of information about the community helper was displayed on the screen. Then a song was played relating to the act which added more effect to the overall performance. In this way the children not only learnt the importance of different community helpers but also got the satisfaction of presenting the act with their own parents whom they love and adore the most.
At 12.00 noon the delicious puri-bhaji, pulao and jalebis were relished by all. After the lunch, craft activity was conducted for children where they prepared paper dish puppets that they took home with them later.

In today’s fast life nutrition takes a back seat. However, our teachers are not only concerned with the mental health of their students but also about their physical well-being. In the evening, teachers explained the importance of sprouted pulses.
A demonstration of how to make mouth watering sprouts pulses chat was given by the teachers. The children were also given sprouted moong, gram, matki, shev, chopped tomatoes and onions to make this healthy sprout chat. Children relished the chat made by themselves along with tangy lemon juice. The kids later enjoyed the videos on dolphins specially screened for them.
The fun-filled day was concluded with evening prayers, songs, shlokas and at the end by singing the Pasayadan.
